The borough has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52 km²), all of which is land. It is governed by an elected borough council and mayor, and is located at 40°4817N 76°2750W (40.804745, -76.464013). As of the census of 2000, there were 735 people, 314 households, and 212 families residing in the borough. The racial makeup of the borough was 99.14% White, 0.32% Native American, and 0.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.41% of the population. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was2.89. The median income for a household in the Borough was $29,107, and the median family income was $37,500. It also has a small section of New York City's East Side, where it is known as "The East Side" and "The West Side" The borough's population is 1,071. It was the second-largest borough in the state in the 1990s, after the city's sister borough of Scrantont. The town's population has declined since the 1970s, when it had 1,087. It now has 1,094.
