Parkville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 30,734. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles (11 km²), all land. An annual Czech and Slovak Festival is held in Parkville to celebrate the Czech/Slovak heritage of Baltimore. For several years, Parkville was the primary location for the nonprofit charity Stanstock, a music festival that benefits two local charities, the Nicole Van Van Foundation and the Catch a Lift Fund. In the 2000 census, there were 31,118 people, 13,044 households, and 8,243 families living in the Parkville CDP. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was2.93. The age distribution was 22.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, and 17.1% from 45 to 64. Geography

The northern border of the CDP is Interstate 695 (the Baltimore Beltway) The eastern border is roughly where Putty Hill Avenue becomes Rossville Boulevard. The southern border is the Baltimore City/Baltimore County line from near Glen Road to Loch Raven Boulevard, and the western boundary is LochRaven Boulevard from the city line to I-695. The CDP was established in the early 1900s. It was named after the town of Loch Raven, Maryland, which is located in the city's eastern suburbs. It is located on the Baltimore River, which flows through the center of the city. The city was once known as "Loch Raven" and was the site of the first African-American settlement in the U.S., in 18th century. The name was changed to "Rossville" in the mid-20th century, when the city was incorporated. The town is now known as Rossville, and was once called "L Loch Raven" before it was renamed Rossville in the 1930s. The current name Rossville is derived from Rossville Road, which runs through the town's eastern part. The word Rossville means "hill" or "mountain" in English, and is used to refer to the area of Rossville that was once part of Baltimore City.
